Ottawa University has flourished and been recognized as a Champions of CharacterInstitution since the 2002-03 academic year and was recently chosen as one of 14 NAIA institutions to be a leader and model in implementing the program center concept.

The Ottawa University motto states "live, learn, lead." The program center will live and embody the five core values (respect, responsibility, servant leadership, integrity, and sportsmanship). Coaches, teachers, students, student-athletes, parents and spectators will learn and gain an understanding of character values in sport and gain valuable training to help them know the right thing, do the right thing, and value the right thing inside and outside of the sports setting. A person enlightened by our program center will lead a positive change by igniting a spark for future generations to follow. Albert Schweitzer stated, "In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit." The Ottawa University program center will help others "rekindle their inner spirit."

The initial influence of the program center will touch our campus community, the city of Ottawa and Franklin County. The lasting legacy will reach around the globe as our graduates and those impacted by the program center will live, learn and lead the five core values. Ottawa University is committed to positively impacting the culture of sport and educating future leaders.
