    Ranked among the top twenty liberal arts colleges in the Midwest by U.S. News and World Report, College of the Ozarks also was selected to appear on the John Templeton Foundation Honor Roll for Character Building Colleges, a listing of schools that “encourage the development of strong moral character among students.”

    College of the Ozarks Associate Professor of Physical Education and Campus Character Representative Donald Hoeck was awarded the 2004 Governor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. Governor Bob Holden spoke at the awards ceremony. During his address, Holden praised Missouri higher education and the award recipients. “This year’s award recipients exemplify the ideal of quality education,” Holden said. “They are committed to upholding a standard of excellence and improving the lives of Missouri citizens by educating and inspiring the individuals around them.”
