Supporting your child as a student-athlete of character
Parents, coaches, administrators and community partners all have a role in developing student-athletes of character.
In response to the deteriorating culture of sport, Champions of Character provides opportunities to educate, promote and incorporate the program's five core values within daily youth activities. Champions of Character brings parents, coaches and administrators positive training to nurture personal growth in youth from the elementary school level to the collegiate level.
Understanding your role
The Champions of Character program training shows you how to help your child before, during and after competition. Before the game, know and accept your child's goals, roles and needs. Release them to the game and empower the coach to build character through sport. During competition, become a role model by being a good sport and focusing on the team. After the game, give your athlete some space and build confidence, in spite of mistakes.
At Champions of Character presentations, you'll hear straightforward messages about how you can help your child's athletic performance and help them develop a lifelong love for sports. You can also attend events in your area to learn more.
Parents will learn how they can help their child's athletic performance, create good memories and demonstrate respect from the perspective of young people.
Studies show more than 70% of youth give up traditional team sports by the age of 13, citing poor relationships with coaches and parents as a determining factor.
The Champions of Character program trains parents to know the right thing, do the right thing and value the right thing, so you can model appropriate behavior in support of your child's sporting experience.
