NAIA Division I Men's and Women's Basketball Players of the Week

January 11, 2006

 

Frank Benson of Oklahoma Baptist University has been named the NAIA Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Week and Shalee Fackrell of Westminster College (Utah) has been named the NAIA Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending January 8, 2006.

 

Benson, a 6-foot-5-inch senior forward from Houston, Texas, averaged 22 points per game as the Bison were 3-0 on the week.  He scored 26 points and had nine rebounds in the team's 79-76 win against defending national champion John Brown University (Ark.).  Benson had 17 points in a 79-75 win against Southern Nazarene University, as well as a 23 point and six rebound performance in a 67-57 upset of then-#4 Oklahoma Christian University.  For the week, Benson shot 57% from the field (23-for-40) and averaged over six rebounds per game.  Oklahoma Baptist is 15-0 overall.

 

Fackrell, a 6-foot-1 inch senior center from Heber City, Utah, averaged a double-double as Westminster went 1-1 on the week.  She scored 27 points and had 17 rebounds in the Griffins' 54-58 loss to Rocky Mountain College (Mont.).  She then scored 30 points and had 13 rebounds in a 68-67 road upset against then-#2 Carroll College (Mont.).  Fackrell shot 50% from the field (17-for-34) and 82% from the free throw line (23-for-28) in the two games.  Westminster is 10-7 overall.

NAIA Division II Men's and Women's Basketball Players of the Week

January 11, 2006

 

Chad Schuiteman of Northwestern College (Iowa) has been named the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Player of the Week and Judy Wright of Roberts Wesleyan College (N.Y.) has been named the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending January 8, 2006.

 

Schuiteman, a 6-foot-6-inch sophomore forward from Sioux Center, Iowa, had two double-doubles during the Red Raiders 2-0 week.  He scored 20 points and had 10 rebounds in a 95-87 win against Morningside College (Iowa).  Schuiteman then had a 28 point, 17 rebound game against Nebraska Wesleyan University as the Red Raiders posted a 99-88 victory.  In the two games, Schuiteman also dished out 14 assists and shot 65% from the field (20-for-31) and 88% from the free-throw line (7-for-8).  Northwestern is 14-2 overall on the season.

 

Wright, a 5-foot-7-inch senior guard from Syracuse, New York, averaged 37 points in the Lady Raiders' two games last week.  She scored 29 points and had nine rebounds and six assists in a 73-51 defeat of St. Vincent College (Pa.).  Wright then broke the school's single-game scoring record when she scored 45 points in a 65-67 loss to Seton Hill College (Pa.).  She also had six rebounds in that game while making17 field goals, six of those three-pointers.  Roberts Wesleyan is 10-3 overall this season.
