Finnessey graduated from Lindenwood University (Mo.) with honors in three and a half years with a BS in psychology. While at Lindenwood, Finnessey was a member of the school's dance team and competed in several beauty pageants, winning the pinnacle Miss USA title in 2004.
A motivational speaker, Finnessey travels across the state of Missouri encouraging young students to practice inclusion of those who are "different." She works to promote inclusion of individuals with mental challenges, specifically mental retardation and Down syndrome, through mentoring and job placement programs.
She authored a children's educational book in 2002 entitled, "The Furrtails," and uses it as a tool when speaking with students at the elementary level. For her efforts, Finnessey recently received the Ryan Brems Award, awarded to individuals who promote the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities. She is also a recipient of the Angle Award, given in Florissant, Mo. to someone who has helped bring the community together.
Finnessey's current gig includes playing co-host to Chuck Woolery on the game show "Lingo," seen on the Game Show Network.
