NAIA Division I Men's and Women's Basketball Players of the Week

Brandon Cole from John Brown University (Ark.) and LaTrice McMichel of Missouri Baptist University were selected as the NAIA Division I Men's and Women's Basketball Players of the Week, respectively, for the week ending January 15, 2006.
A senior, Cole became John Brown's all-time scoring leader, posting 26.5 points per game in wins against then-#17 ranked Wayland Baptist University (Texas) and Lubbock Christian University (Texas). The 6-1 guard also averaged six rebounds and four assists in the two games. For his career, Cole, from Hector, Ark., has scored 2,100 points and made 470 three-point baskets, continuing his nation-leading streak of making a 3-point shot in every collegiate game he has played (118). The defending national champions stand at 8-8 on the season.
McMichel led Missouri Baptist to a 1-1 record last week, averaging 34.5 points and 4.5 rebounds. The 6-1 senior guard from Indianapolis, Ind. scored 38 points in a losing effort against William Woods University (Mo.) and poured in 31 points in a victory against McKendree College (Ill.). She recorded three assists and two steals per game. MBU improved to 13-4 on the season.

NAIA Division II Men's and Women's Basketball Players of the Week

Michael Newcome of Fisher College (Mass.) and Lynnze Martinsen from Hastings College (Neb.) were named the NAIA Division II Men's and Women's Basketball Players of the Week, respectively, for the week ending January 15, 2006.
Hailing from Staten Island, N.Y., Newcome had a busy week in leading Fisher to a 4-0 record by averaging 28.8 points per game on 34-for-62 shooting. The 6-1 senior guard shot 55% on 34-for-62 from the field. He also grabbed 10 rebounds per game and averaged five assists per game in the four victories. Fisher improved to 8-10 overall.
A 5-7 guard from St. Paul, Neb., Martinsen helped then-No. 8 Hastings post two victories against ranked teams, including an upset of then #1-ranked Northwestern College (Iowa) and a win against then-#11 Doane College (Neb.). The senior averaged 23.5 points and three steals in the two victories as Hastings improved to 16-4.
