Dennis Miller, Point Park University (Pa.)
Graduated - 1976
Major - Journalism and Communications
As a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Miller went on to graduate with a BA in Journalism and Communications from Point Park College (now University) in 1976. After college, Miller honed his skills as a stand-up comic in clubs in New York and Los Angeles. In 1985 he rose to national fame when he joined NBC's Saturday Night Live and was tabbed to anchor the popular "Weekend Update" segment.
Miller hosted the 1991 Emmy Awards and the 1992 and 1995 MTV awards. In 2000-2001 he provided color commentary for ABC's Monday Night Football with mixed reviews. The year 2003 brought Miller an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Individual Performance In a Variety Or Music Program for "Dennis Miller: The Raw Feed".
Hollywood lured Miller, with small roles in movies such as "Disclosure" with Michael Douglas and Sandra Bullock's "The Net." Miller's comedy/commentary shtick of satiric punch lines and obscure cultural references is still popular on cable TV with various comedy specials.
