NAIA Division I Men's and Women's Basketball Players of the Week

February 8, 2006

 

Lorenzo Gordon of Oklahoma City University as been named the NAIA Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Week and Latrice McMichel of Missouri Baptist University has been named the NAIA Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending February 5, 2006.

 

Gordon, a 6-foot-7-inch senior forward/center from St. Louis, Mo., averaged more than 28 points as the Stars went 2-0 last week.  He scored 35 points and had 10 rebounds in an 83-72 overtime victory against then-#20 Oklahoma Christian University.  Oklahoma City won their seventh game in a row.  Gordon then scored 22 points and had 10 rebounds in an 80-76 road victory over then-#4 Oklahoma Baptist University.  For the week, Gordon shot 70% from the field (23-for-33) and 50% from 3-point range (2-for-4).  Oklahoma City is 16-6 overall.

 

McMichel, a 6-foot-1 inch senior guard from Indianapolis, Ind., averaged 36 points as the Spartans went 2-0 on the week.  She scored 46 points in the 87-84 home win against Harris- Stowe State University (Mo.).  During that game she broke her own single-game scoring mark of 40.  She then scored 27 points and had six rebounds in a 78-67 road win against William Woods University (Mo.).  McMichel shot 54% from the field (25-for-46) and 76% from the free throw line (16-for-21) in both games.  Missouri Baptist is 17-6 overall.

NAIA Division II Men's and Women's Basketball Players of the Week

February 8, 2006

 

Antonio Davis of Urbana University (Ohio) has been named the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Player of the Week and Jenna Matson of MidAmerica Nazarene University (Kan.) has been named the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending February 5, 2006.

 

Davis, a 6-foot-6-inch senior power forward from Columbus, Ohio, averaged 32 points during the Blue Knights' 2-0 week.  He scored 36 points, which was a career high, and had 11 rebounds in a 91-84 win against Shawnee State University (Ohio).  Davis then recorded a 29 point, 13 rebound game, despite suffering from the flu, against Tiffin University (Ohio) in the Blue Knights' 83-72 victory.  In the two games, Davis averaged 52% from the field (22-for-42) and 79% from the free-throw line (19-for-24).  Urbana is 12-12 overall on the season.

 

Matson, a 6-foot-0-inch sophomore forward from Sabetha, Kan, averaged 23 points in the Pioneers' three games last week.  She scored 25 points and had seven rebounds in a 62-51 road win against Baker University (Kan). Matson then scored 24 points and had 13 rebounds in a 79-59 win against Graceland University (Iowa).  Matson next scored 20 points and had 11 rebounds in a 64-56 road win against Evangel University (Mo.).  She averaged 89% from the free-throw line (17-for-19) and shot 52% from the field (24-for-46).  MidAmerica Nazarene is 22-4 overall this season.
