NAIA Region V Baseball - Week 7

Player of the Week

Columbia, Mo. (May 1) - Willie Keene, a senior centerfielder for Avila, is the Region V Player of the Week. Keene, who is a native of Fullerton, Calif., hit .833 for his club last week, totaling 10 hits in 12 at-bats. He posted four dingers, one stolen base, tallied 10 RBIs and scored seven runs.  With his four homeruns this week, Willie broke Avila's single season homerun record with 19 on the year. 

 

Avila improves to 32-13 on the season.

Pitcher of the Week
Columbia, Mo. (May 1) - Billy Brazle, a senior pitcher for the Williams Baptist Eagles, is the Region V Pitcher of the Week. The Little Rock, Ark. native won his sixth and seventh games of the season last week, throwing an eight-inning shutout vs. McKendree College. He also notched the win against Lyon College, throwing two innings. For the week, Brazle notched eight strikeouts and gave up only one walk and no earned runs.

 

The Eagles move to 16-31 overall.

NAIA Region V Softball Report - Week 7

May 1, 2007

 

Player of the Week

Columbia, Mo. (May 1) - Julia Thrasher, a senior from Olney, Ill., has been named the Region V Player of the Week. Thrasher, a first baseman, helped her Evangel Crusaders' to the 2007 HAAC Post-Season Tournament title on a 4-0-1 record on the week. Thrasher hit .474 with 13 runs batted in and seven runs scored during the week. She also posted two doubles and three homeruns, including two grand slams.

 

Evangel improves to 30-11-1 on the season.

Also nominated: Angie Maue, McKendree College

 

Pitcher of the Week

Columbia, Mo. (May 1) - Katie McMahon, a junior pitcher from Columbia College, has been named the Region V Pitcher of the Week for the week. McMahon, from Edina, Mo., went 2-1 in three games pitched on the week with a 0.39 earned-run average and 19 strikeouts in 18 innings pitched. She also limited opponents to just 10 hits and four walks in her three appearances. Fort her efforts this season, McMahon was named the Conference Pitcher of the Year.

 

The Cougars move to 24-16 overall.

NAIA Region V Baseball - Week 6

April 24, 2007

 

Player of the Week

Columbia, Mo. (April 24) - Travis McConnell, a senior catcher for the Lindenwood Lions, is the Region V Player of the Week. McConnell hit .520 last week, logging 13 hits in 25 trips to the plate. In Lindenwood's eight games, the El Dorado Hills, Calif. native scored eight runs, hit four doubles, one triple and knocked three home runs. In addition, he tallied 16 RBIs on the week and posted the winning RBI over William Woods.

 

The Lions improve to 31-16 overall.

Pitcher of the Week
Columbia, Mo. (April 24) -
The Region V Pitcher of the Week in baseball is Brandon Daudt from Culver-Stockton College. Daudt threw seven innings in a 2-0 win over Missouri Valley and tallied double digits in the strikeout column, fanning 11 opposing batters. For the week, Daudt, who hails from San Dimas, Calif. appeared in two games and was on the mound eight innings for the Wildcats. He gave up just three walks and zero runs.

 

Culver-Stockton moves to 26-29 on the season.

NAIA Region V Softball Report - Week 6

April 24, 2007

 

Player of the Week

Columbia, Mo. (April 24) - Beth Krogmeier, a freshman catcher and designated player for Benedictine, has been named the Region V Player of the Week in softball. Krogmeier recorded a .621 batting average last week, tallying 18 hits in 29 appearances at the plate. The Liberty, Mo. native totaled 12 runs scored, six doubles, one triple, six home runs and 19 RBIs. In addition, in two games vs. No. 15 ranked Evangel (Mo.) University, Krogmeier was four-for-seven with two doubles and two RBIs.

 

Benedictine moves to 21-22 on the season.

Pitcher of the Week

Columbia, Mo. (April 24) - Sara Eggleston, a junior right-handed hurler for the Culver-Stockton Wildcats, has been named the Region V Pitcher of the Week in softball. Eggleston appeared in eight of Culver's ten games last week, recording three complete game shutouts and a 6-0 record. For the week, Eggleston, who hails from Memphis, Mo., posted an ERA of 1.04. She fanned 35 batters and allowed 26 hits and just seven earned runs in 47 innings pitched. 

 

The Wildcats move improved to 18-20 overall.

Columbia, Mo. (April 17) - Jack Kopacz, a senior catcher for the Missouri Baptist Spartans, is the Region V Player of the Week in baseball for April 16-22. Kopacz, who hails from Wauconda, Ill., led his squad to a 2-1 record last week, logging six hits in nine appearances at the plate. He notched a .667 batting average and recorded two doubles, one home run and six RBIs.

 

Kopacz and the Spartans are 24-12 on the season.

Matt Mammen of Harris-Stowe State University is the Region V Pitcher of the Week in baseball for April 16-22. The Delavan, Ill. native made one appearance for the Hornets last week, throwing seven innings in a 6-0 win over Hannibal-LaGrange College. Mammen threw a no-hitter, while fanning 10 Trojan batters.

 

The Hornets move to 16-21 overall.

(April 17) - Ashley Windmiller, a senior designated hitter for the William Woods University Owls, has been named the Region V Player of the Week in women's softball for the week of April 16-22. Windmiller led the Owls to a 4-0 record last week, collecting eight hits in 14 trips to the plate. In addition, the Salisbury, Mo. native scored six runs and tallied a double, two triples, two home runs and nine RBIs.

 

The Owls improved to 24-10.

Pitcher of the Week

Columbia, Mo. Player of the Week

Columbia, Mo. (April 10) - Mike Parson, a 6-0 sophomore outfielder for the Lindenwood University Lions, has been named the Region V Player of the Week.  Parson hit .526 last week, totaling 10 hits in 19 at-bats.  The St. Charles, Mo. native recorded seven RBIs, one double, one triple and scored nine runs in Lindenwood's five games


After a 5-0 week, the Lions move to 23-13 on the season.

Pitcher of the Week
Columbia, Mo. (April 10) -
Missouri Valley's Mike Tachell is this week's Region V Pitcher of the Week.  In a 4-0 win over Heart of America foe Culver-Stockton College, Tachell tossed a complete game, two-hitter.  Tachell, who hails from Gig Harbor, Wash., allowed zero runs and recorded a 0.00 ERA.  In addition, he struck out six batters while walking zero. 

The Vikings went 4-0 on the week and improved to 18-14 on the season.

NAIA Region V Softball Report - Week 4

April 10, 2007

 

Player of the Week

Columbia, Mo. (April 10) - For the second straight week, Stephanie Stowe of Columbia College is the Region V Player of the week.  Stowe was red hot at the plate last week, recording a batting average of .632, belting 12 hits in 19 trips to the plate.  Stowe totaled nine RBIs, five doubles, one homerun and two stolen bases in Columbia's six games last week.  Stowe also pushed her hitting streak to 14 games last week. 

 

The Cougars went 5-1 last week and improve to 17-10 on the season.

Pitcher of the Week

Columbia, Mo. (April 10) - Katie McMahon, a junior for the Columbia College Cougars, has been named the Region V Pitcher of the Week.  The right-handed hurler from Edina, Mo. pitched 17 innings last week, striking out 21 batters and only walking four.  McMahon allowed just one earned run in her three outings last week, recording a 0.41 ERA.  Against Harris-Stowe State University, Katie struck out eight and did not allow a single hit or walk.

 

Katie's three wins helped the Cougars to a 5-1 week and a 17-10 overall record.

Columbia, Mo. (April 3) - Kyle Christiansen of William Woods University is the Region V Player of the Week in baseball for April 3. Christiansen, who hails from St. Charles, Mo., led the Owls to a 1-0 record last week, logging four hits in five appearances at the plate. He notched a .800 batting average and recorded two homeruns and three RBIs. In addition, Christiansen scored three runs in a 14-10 victory over Region V foe Missouri Valley College

 

Christiansen and the Owls improve to 15-10 on the season

Robert Carey of Avila University, is the Region V Pitcher of the Week in baseball for April 3. The Westminster, Calif. native made one appearance for the Eagles last week, throwing seven innings in a 2-1 win over William Jewell College. He allowed just five hits and one walk, while fanning 11 Cardinal batters.

 

Avila moves to 21-8 on the season.

Columbia, Mo. (April 3) - Stephanie Stowe, a senior catcher for the Columbia Cougars, is the Region V Player of the Week in softball for April 3. Stowe led the Cougars to a 4-0 week.  In 13 trips to the plate, the Manitoba, Canada native totaled nine hits, recording a .692 batting average. In addition, in three of her team's four outings, Stowe knocked in one or more runs.  In total, Stowe logged six RBIs, one double, one homerun, one stolen base and scored four runs.

 

Columbia improved to 12-9 on the season with last week's wins.

Pitcher of the Week

Columbia, Mo. (April 3) - Christa Hummer, a senior hurler for the Owls from William Woods University, is the Region V Pitcher of the Week for April 3. The Clarksdale, Mo. native threw 11 innings in three appearances last week. She gave up zero earned runs and notched wins over Westminster College and Benedictine College. Hummer allowed just five hits, zero runs and zero walks, while fanning 14 opposing batters.

 

After a 4-0 week, William Woods improves to 19-9 on the season.

NAIA Region V Baseball - Week 2

March 26, 2007

 

Player of the Week

Columbia, Mo. (March 26) - Dave Powell, a junior designated player from Benedictine (Kan.) University, has been selected as the Region V Player of the Week for March 26. Powell, from Poseburg, Oregon, batted .647 for the week with 11 hits in 17 at-bats in seven games last week. Powell was three-for-four in Benedictine's HAAC sweep against Evangel University, where he collected two doubles, one home run and three RBI's. Powell homered in both games last week against Conference foe Lindenwood. For the season, Powell is hitting .529.

Pitcher of the Week
Columbia, Mo. (March 26) -
Jose Collazo, a senior southpaw from Missouri Baptist University, has been named the Region V Pitcher of the Week for March 26. Collazo, from Brooklyn, N.Y., tossed seven scoreless innings, giving up just five hits and zero walks while fanning 12 batters. Collazo helped the Spartans to a 2-0 record on the week. 

 

Missouri Baptist 17-7 on the season.

NAIA Region V Softball Report - Week 2

March 26, 2007

 

Player of the Week

Columbia, Mo. (March 26) - Beth Krogmeier of Benedictine (Kan.) University is the Region V Player of the Week for the week ending March 24, 2007.  Krogmeier, a freshman catcher from Liberty, Mo., hit .786 on the week with 10 runs batted in and 11 runs scored. She also helped her team to a perfect 4-0 record on the week by recording 11 hits. Krogmeier had two or more hits in each game and also had three multiple RBI games on the week.

 

Benedictine improved to 9-12 on the year with last week's wins.

Pitcher of the Week

Columbia, Mo. (March 20) - Kimberly Williams of Evangel (Mo.) University has been named the Region V Pitcher of the Week. Williams, a sophomore from Loveland, Colo., was 3-0 in five appearances on the week with a 1.93 earned-run average. She started the week out with a four-hit, one-run performance against Southwestern. Against Northwestern Oklahoma State she threw seven innings, striking out four and giving up zero walks.  She followed that with a three-hit game against Avila in which she struck out 10. On the week, Williams went 25.1 innings allowing just 17 hits while striking out 17.

 

Evangel went 5-2 on the week and moves to 16-8 on the season with last week's wins.

NAIA Region V Baseball - Week 1

March 20, 2007

 

Player of the Week

Columbia, Mo. (March 20) - Tyson Mulvaney of Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) College is the Region V Player of the Week.  Mulvaney, a junior first baseman from Salem, Mo., helped the Lions to a 7-1 week with two Regional wins over Central Methodist (Mo.) University.  Hannibal improved to 9-9 on the season. 

 

Mulvaney went 17 for 31 with six runs scored and 13 RBI's.  Tyson also knocked two doubles and two homeruns on the week.

Pitcher of the Week

Columbia, Mo. (March 20) - Jon Story of Lindenwood (Mo.) University is the Region V Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 17, 2007.  Story, a junior from Louisville, Ky., was one pitch shy of a no-hitter in a 6-0 win over conference foe Baker (Kan.) University.  Jon finished the game allowing no runs on one hit with seven strike-outs and three walks.

 

The Lions were 2-2 on the week and move to 14-9 on the season.

NAIA Region V Softball Report - Week 1

March 20, 2007

 

Player of the Week

Columbia, Mo. (March 20) - Cori McClanahan of Lindenwood (Mo.) University is the Region V Player of the Week for the week ending March 17, 2007.  McClanahan, a senior second baseman from Chesterfield, Mo., scored seven runs and had seven RBI's last week.

 

The Lions recorded a 3-5 week to move to 9-10 on the year.  McClanahan finished the week with a slugging percentage of .650.

Pitcher of the Week

Columbia, Mo. (March 20) - Heidi Heric of Avila (Mo.) is the Region V Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 17, 2007.  Heric, a senior from Shoreline, Washington, threw two complete games giving up zero earned runs.  Heric fanned 19 batters while allowing just three walks.  In a 5-0 win over Minnesota-Morris, Heric tossed a no-hit shutout, striking out 10 batters.

Heidi helped Avila to a 7-0 week and improved their record to 14-3 on the season.

Columbia, Mo. (April 3) - Christa Hummer, a senior hurler for the Owls from William Woods University, is the Region V Pitcher of the Week for April 3. The Clarksdale, Mo. native threw 11 innings in three appearances last week. She gave up zero earned runs and notched wins over Westminster College and Benedictine College. Hummer allowed just five hits, zero runs and zero walks, while fanning 14 opposing batters.

 

After a 4-0 week, William Woods improves to 19-9 on the season.

Player of the Week

Columbia, Mo. (March 26) - Dave Powell, a junior designated player from Benedictine (Kan.) University, has been selected as the Region V Player of the Week for March 26. Powell, from Poseburg, Oregon, batted .647 for the week with 11 hits in 17 at-bats in seven games last week. Powell was three-for-four in Benedictine's HAAC sweep against Evangel University, where he collected two doubles, one home run and three RBI's. Powell homered in both games last week against Conference foe Lindenwood. For the season, Powell is hitting .529.

Pitcher of the Week
Columbia, Mo. (March 26) -
Jose Collazo, a senior southpaw from Missouri Baptist University, has been named the Region V Pitcher of the Week for March 26. Collazo, from Brooklyn, N.Y., tossed seven scoreless innings, giving up just five hits and zero walks while fanning 12 batters. Collazo helped the Spartans to a 2-0 record on the week. 

 

Missouri Baptist 17-7 on the season.

NAIA Region V Softball Report - Week 2

Player of the Week

Columbia, Mo. (March 26) - Beth Krogmeier of Benedictine (Kan.) University is the Region V Player of the Week for the week ending March 24, 2007.  Krogmeier, a freshman catcher from Liberty, Mo., hit .786 on the week with 10 runs batted in and 11 runs scored. She also helped her team to a perfect 4-0 record on the week by recording 11 hits. Krogmeier had two or more hits in each game and also had three multiple RBI games on the week.

 

Benedictine improved to 9-12 on the year with last week's wins.

Pitcher of the Week

Columbia, Mo. (March 20) - Kimberly Williams of Evangel (Mo.) University has been named the Region V Pitcher of the Week. Williams, a sophomore from Loveland, Colo., was 3-0 in five appearances on the week with a 1.93 earned-run average. She started the week out with a four-hit, one-run performance against Southwestern. Against Northwestern Oklahoma State she threw seven innings, striking out four and giving up zero walks.  She followed that with a three-hit game against Avila in which she struck out 10. On the week, Williams went 25.1 innings allowing just 17 hits while striking out 17.

 

Evangel went 5-2 on the week and moves to 16-8 on the season with last week's wins.

NAIA Region V Baseball - Week 1

Player of the Week

Columbia, Mo. (March 20) - Tyson Mulvaney of Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) College is the Region V Player of the Week.  Mulvaney, a junior first baseman from Salem, Mo., helped the Lions to a 7-1 week with two Regional wins over Central Methodist (Mo.) University.  Hannibal improved to 9-9 on the season. 

 

Mulvaney went 17 for 31 with six runs scored and 13 RBI's.  Tyson also knocked two doubles and two homeruns on the week.

Pitcher of the Week

Columbia, Mo. (March 20) - Jon Story of Lindenwood (Mo.) University is the Region V Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 17, 2007.  Story, a junior from Louisville, Ky., was one pitch shy of a no-hitter in a 6-0 win over conference foe Baker (Kan.) University.  Jon finished the game allowing no runs on one hit with seven strike-outs and three walks.

 

The Lions were 2-2 on the week and move to 14-9 on the season.

NAIA Region V Softball Report - Week 1

Player of the Week

Columbia, Mo. (March 20) - Cori McClanahan of Lindenwood (Mo.) University is the Region V Player of the Week for the week ending March 17, 2007.  McClanahan, a senior second baseman from Chesterfield, Mo., scored seven runs and had seven RBI's last week.

 

The Lions recorded a 3-5 week to move to 9-10 on the year.  McClanahan finished the week with a slugging percentage of .650.

Pitcher of the Week

Columbia, Mo. (March 20) - Heidi Heric of Avila (Mo.) is the Region V Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 17, 2007.  Heric, a senior from Shoreline, Washington, threw two complete games giving up zero earned runs.  Heric fanned 19 batters while allowing just three walks.  In a 5-0 win over Minnesota-Morris, Heric tossed a no-hit shutout, striking out 10 batters.

Heidi helped Avila to a 7-0 week and improved their record to 14-3 on the season.
