The NAIA Region IV Softball Tournament media notes for the regional post-season tournament are announced 5/5/2008 by Region IV regional SID John Pearson, phone 785-227-2302. The Region IV softball sport chair is Ed Lehotak (Bellevue University NE). The 2008 Region IV softball tournament director is Mike McCormick (McPherson College, phone 620-242-0585, e-mail McCormiM@mcpherson.edu). The tournament chief SID and statistician is Mr. Carol Swenson (McPherson College, phone 620-242-0431, e-mail SwensonC@mcpherson.edu), and he will be assisted by several other SIDs. The tournament releases and updates will be distributed under supervision of Carol Swenson.
The Region IV of National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics post-season softball tournament will be held Thursday and Friday, May 8-9, 2008, with rainout make-up day of May 10, at Wall Park two diamonds in McPherson, Kansas. The NAIA Region IV softball tournament this year is hosted by the KCAC conference.
The six participating teams, with tournament seeds, are: from Midland Collegiate Athletic Conference, (2) Bellevue University (NE), (6) Park University (MO); and from Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference, (1) Friends University (KS), (3) Kansas Wesleyan University (KS), (4) Ottawa University (KS), (5) Bethany College (KS).
The regional tournament scheduled games are:
THURSDAY: Game #1 10 am Miller Field, KWU vs. Park. Game #2 10 am Lenberg Field, Ottawa vs. Bethany. Game #3 12 noon Miller Field, Bellevue vs. Winner Game 1. Game #4 12 noon Lenberg Field, Friends vs. Winner Game 2. Game #5 loser bracket 2 pm Miller Field, Loser Game 2 vs. Loser Game 3. Game #6 loser bracket 2 pm Lenberg Field, Loser Game 1 vs. Loser Game 4. Game #7 4 pm Lenberg Field, Winner Game 3 vs. Winner Game 4. Game #8 loser bracket 5 pm Miller Field, Winner Game 5 vs. Winner Game 6. FRIDAY: Game #9 10 am Lenberg Field, Winner Game 8 vs. Loser Game 7. Game #10 12 noon Lenberg Field, Winner Game 7 vs. Winner Game 9, championship game (unless the "If Game" is necessary, if first loss for loser of Game 10). The NAIA 28th Annual Softball National Championship Tournament will be held May 16-21 at Wilson Morgan Softball Complex in Decatur, Alabama, as a 20-team championship with 14 regional champions and 6 at-large teams, with adjustments as needed for certain qualifying regions. There is no super regional tournament in softball.
