Azusa Pacific (Calif.) Widens Gap in the First Spring NAIA U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup Standings
Cougars lead all teams with 951.50 points

2007-08 NAIA - Spring #1 - Complete Standings
Cleveland, Ohio - Following four top-five finishes in spring NAIA championships, Azusa Pacific (Calif.) remains atop the NAIA U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup Standings. The Cougars lead all teams with 951.50 points, more than 100 points over second place.
Azusa Pacific captured the men's outdoor track and field championship, placed third in men's tennis, fourth in women's outdoor track and field and fifth in women's tennis to have a total of 333.00 points scored in the spring.
Continuing to hold second place is Simon Fraser (B.C.) with 818.00 total points. The Clan were runner-up in women's outdoor track and field, fifth in softball and 35th in men's outdoor track and field this spring.
Third and fourth place also remained the same in the first spring standings, as Lindenwood (Mo.) is third with 735.00 points followed by Concordia (Calif.) in fourth with 720.50 points.
The Lions placed in five of the seven spring championships to date, finishing 13th in men's outdoor track and field, 17th in men's tennis, 18th in men's golf, 24th in women's golf and 73rd in softball.
Concordia also scored in five championships, placing fifth in men's tennis, 20th in women's outdoor track and field, 24th in women's golf, 26th in men's outdoor track and field and 45th in men's golf.
Jumping five spots from the previous standings is Embry Riddle Aeronautical (Fla.), who is now fifth with 709.75. The Eagles notched three top-five finishes this spring, placing second in women's golf, third in men's tennis and fifth in women's tennis. Embry Riddle Aeronautical also finished 15th in women's outdoor track and field, 53rd in men's outdoor track and field and 102nd in men's golf.
Capturing NAIA spring championships to date are: Oklahoma City, women's golf; British Columbia, men's golf; Lubbock Christian (Tex.), softball; Auburn Montgomery (Ala.), women's and men's tennis; Wayland Baptist (Tex.), women's outdoor track and field, Azusa Pacific (Calif.), men's outdoor track and field.
The final NAIA U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup Standings will be released on June 11th, at the 2008 U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup Luncheon in conjunction with the 2008 NACDA Convention, and will include baseball.
The Sports Academy Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. The United States Sports Academy, based in Daphne, Alabama, is the program sponsor. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 12 sports - six women's and six men's.
