BELLEVUE, Neb. – Jerry Mosser resigned Wednesday (Sept. 3) after 34 years as either a coach, athletic director or both at Bellevue University. His resignation is effective Friday, Sept. 5.
“Coach” Mosser started his career at then-Bellevue College in 1972 as head men’s basketball coach and athletic director. After 20 years as head coach, Mosser stepped down with a career coaching record of 198-289. Mosser has spent the last 12 years with one title: athletic director.
Mosser started his coaching career and teaching at Creighton Prep High School and Bryan Junior High School.
In his 34 years, Mosser has added four sports to the original two: baseball and men’s basketball. In 1990, Bellevue University added its first women’s sport, volleyball, then added a fourth sport, women’s soccer, in 1994. In 1995, men’s soccer was inducted, followed by the final Bruin program, softball, in 1997. Bellevue University joined the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference in 1994.
At the helm of the Bruin athletic program, Mosser has seen baseball win a NAIA World Series in 1995 and men’s basketball finish runner-up at the 2008 and 2004 NAIA national tournaments, along with first-time MCAC tournament championships in 2006 for women’s soccer and volleyball.
Mosser was recognized three times during his career, named District 11 Athletic Director of the Year in 1991-92 and the MCAC’s Male Athletic Director of the Year twice, in 1996-97 and 2000-01.
Mosser will spend his retirement traveling with his wife, Gloria, and his three children, Jennifer, Joel and Juline, in addition to his grandchild, Logan, which will help keep him young at heart.
