Kevin Hawkins (1998-2002) was named the inaugural Embry-Riddle Baseball Alumnus of the Year at the 2004 Embry-Riddle (Fla.) Baseball Alumni Weekend held Nov. 5-6, 2004.
Hawkins, who holds both Embry-Riddle's single season (10) and career saves (15) records received honorable mention All-America, All-Region XIV, All-Florida Sun Conference and NAIA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors as a senior.
While at Embry-Riddle, he co-authored OpenGL Game Programming; Beginning OpenGL Game Programming and More OpenGL Game Programming, and was the contributing author for Game Programming: Tricks of the Trade. OpenGL Game Programming and Game Programming: Tricks of the Trade are currently being used as textbooks in universities around the world, including Embry-Riddle.
Currently employed by Raydon Corporation, Hawkins develops simulation and training systems for the military, including systems currently used to train soldiers in Iraq. He is responsible for developing innovative software architecture for all of Raydon's products in the next five years.
Hawkins is also the CEO and co-founder of GameDev.net, LLC. The No. 1 resource on the internet for the gaming industry, GameDev.net, provides a wealth of information for those interested in learning how to make video games. The site gets about 150,000 hits per day and has received numerous accolades and media recognition from the gaming industry.
