A two-time All-American women's soccer forward at Azusa Pacific University, Chrissy Sanford was recently the star of NBC's 25 Million Dollar Hoax.
After answering an ad on the Internet, Sanford landed the role, requiring her to convince her family that she had won an internet lottery of at least $5 million. Ed McMahon showed up at the Sanford house with a camera crew and a fake $5 million check. In order to win a $400,000 prize package for her family, Sanford had to spend 5 million fake dollars on herself in five
days, as well as have her entire family show up on the fifth day where she would spin the prize wheel, which was rigged to land on $25 million.
After spending the fake $5 million on clothes, trips, jewelry, a car and a house in five days, Sanford's family was worried that she had thrown all her money away and wouldn't be able to afford her new lifestyle. However, they all showed up for her final spin, where McMahon handed Sanford a check for $25 million, which she promptly ripped up and explained the hoax to her family. Because the entire family showed up for the final spin, the Sanford's won the $400,000 prize package.
Sanford played for Azusa Pacific for two seasons, leading the Cougars to semifinal appearances in 2000 and 2001. Sanford holds the school record for most goals in a game (5), is third in career goals (46), and is third in career points (107). She also scored seven goals in her six national championship games, including a hat-trick in 2001.
Sanford graduated from Azusa Pacific in 2003 with a Computer Information Systems degree. She is currently living in San Diego and is employed as a computer programmer. Sanford is also a midfielder on the San Diego Sea Lions in the Women's Premier Soccer League.
