Sept. 8, 2005
The NAIA Administrative Committee of the Council of Presidents approved four special provisions effective immediately. It is anticipated that these changes will be the first in a series of temporary adjustments designed to accommodate and support NAIA members and student athletes. This list will be updated upon the approval of additional modifications.
- In instances in which the fall 2005 academic term is cancelled by any of the affected institutions, academic coursework or athletic competition by student-athletes at those institutions in August 2005 will not be considered in determining eligibility (e.g., terms of attendance, seasons of competition, academic progress) in subsequent terms at any NAIA member institution.
- In the event an affected institution resumes classes for fall 2005 and cancels athletics for the remainder of the fall term, student-athletes at that institution shall not be charged a season of competition based on participation at the beginning of the term.
- In instances in which an affected institution cancels athletics for fall 2005, student-athletes who were eligible for fall competition at the affected institutions will not be subject to NAIA transfer provisions if they elect to transfer and compete at another NAIA member institution this fall.
- Student-athletes at affected institutions who choose to enroll this fall at another institution of higher education as a result of an affected institution's cancellation of classes for fall 2005 will be immediately eligible upon return to the affected institution once classes resume, provided those student-athletes were eligible at the time of their withdrawal from the affected institution.
