NAIA Players of the Week - September 26, 2005



De De Dorsey of Lindenwood University (Mo.), Chuck Jones of Cumberland University (Tenn.), and Eric Brown of Evangel University (Mo.) were named the NAIA Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Football Players of the Week for the week ending September 26, 2005.

Dorsey, a 6'0, 204-lb tailback from Broken Arrow, Okla., set a school record as he recorded six touchdowns in Lindenwood's 42-27 upset against then-#8 Graceland University (Iowa). The senior rushed for 271 yards on 43 carries and also completed one pass attempt for 27 yards. Dorsey has rushed for over 100 yards in every game this season. Lindenwood improved to 2-2 on the season with the win.

Jones recorded 20 tackles (10 solo and 10 assisted) in the Bulldog's 34-22 victory against then-#24 University of Virginia's College at Wise. The 5'11, 185-lb senior defensive back from Live Oak, Fla., had a tackle for a 15 yard loss, forced one fumble and had a fumble recovery. With the win, Cumberland moved to 2-1 on the season.

Brown helped lead Evangel to a 37-36 win against Baker University (Kan.). The sophomore from Bolivar, Mo., made all four of his extra point attempts and connected on a 20-yard field goal. He averaged 64.4 yards per kickoff, including three touchbacks. Evangel improved to 3-1 on the season.

Andrew Corazza of Simon Fraser University (B.C.)  and Shannon Coe of Azusa Pacific University (Calif.)
were named the NAIA Men's and Women's Soccer Players of the Week for the week ending September 26, 2005.
 
Senior forward Corazza from Coquitlam, B.C., recorded five goals and one assist (11 points) to lead Simon Fraser to a 2-0 week.  Corazza recorded a hat trick in the Clan's 4-0 win against Dominican University (Calif.) and also scored two goals and had an assist in the team's 4-0 win against Humboldt State University (Calif.).  Simon Fraser improved to 8-1 on the season.  
 
Coe, a senior from Temple City, Calif., led Azusa to two wins against top-five teams.  The forward scored a goal and had an assist in Azusa Pacific's 2-1 upset over then-#1 Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.).  She then tallied a goal and an assist, both in the second half, in a 4-1 win over then-#4 Lee University (Tenn.).  The Cougars are a perfect 7-0 on the year.

Molly Hall
of Campbellsville University (Ky.), Ashley Frost of Madonna University (Mich.), and Keesha Cooper of Newman University (Kan.) were named the NAIA Volleyball Player, Setter and Libero of the Week, respectively for the week ending September 26, 2005.

 
Hall, a native of Taylor Mill, Ky., led her team to a perfect 3-0 record on the week, averaging 6.33 kills per game with a total of 57 in nine games played.  The senior middle blocker posted a .540 hitting percentage.  Hill also recorded 27 digs (3.0 per game) along with 22 total blocks.  Campbellsville is 12-3 on the season.
 
Frost, a senior from Lake Odessa, Mich., averaged 15.5 assists Madonna went 6-0 during the week.  The Crusaders posted 3-0 victories over Siena Heights University (Mich.), Northwood University (Fla.), Flagler College (Fla.), Florida Memorial College, Embry-Riddle University (Fla.) and Palm Beach Atlantic University (Fla.).  Frost also recorded 38 digs, nine aces and 21 total blocks en route to being named MVP of the Pepsi Bash at the Beach Tournament.  Madonna remains undefeated at 22-0 on the season.
 
Cooper, a senior from Topeka, Kan., averaged 10.8 digs on the week in three matches.  She recorded 40-plus digs in two of the three matches.  Newman recorded a 3-0 win against Haskell Indian Nations University (Kan.) and dropped two matches (1-3) to Bellevue University (Neb.) and the College of St. Mary (Neb.).  Newman's record stands at 6-7.
