For Bobby Petrino, it all started in Montana. A native of Helena, his first coaching job was at his alma mater Carroll College (Mont.) as a graduate assistant. Petrino was a two-time Honorable Mention All-American quarterback for the Saints and led Carroll to three consecutive Frontier Conference championships. He was named the conference most valuable player in 1981 and 1982.
After making his way through the college ranks Petrino landed in Louisville as the offensive coordinator in 1998. After his first year with University of Louisville, Petrino took a job in the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars coaching the quarterbacks for two seasons. He was promoted to offensive coordinator two years later.
In 2003 Petrino returned to Louisville as the Cardinals head football coach. Petrino has led the Louisville to a 29-8 record in his first three seasons, averaging nine wins each season. More impressive is his home stance as the Cardinals are 16-1 at home under Petrino. In 2004 Louisville was crowned the Conference USA title, along with winning the Liberty Bowl.
