Football Honors

 

Jeff Kietzman of St. Ambrose University (Iowa), Jarrod Dewald of Southern Nazarene University (Okla.), and Jabari Woods of Iowa Wesleyan College were named the NAIA Football Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the week, respectively, for the October 29 game.

 

Kietzman, 6'5", 205-lb threw for 431 yards in then-# 10 St. Ambrose's 43-10 victory against William Penn University (Iowa). The senior from Eldridge, Iowa was 23-for-36, connected for six touchdown passes and had two intercepted as St. Ambrose improved to 7-1 on the year.

 

Hailing from Mooreland, Okla., linebacker Dewald recorded 14 solo tackles and assisted on three others as Southern Nazarene handed Langston University (Okla.) a 35-19 loss. The 5'11", 205-lb senior tied a school record for most tackles in a game with the total of 17. Two tackles were for a loss of nine yards, including one sack, as Southern Nazarene improved to 5-3 this year.

 

The 6'0", 190-lb Woods returned two punts for a total of 99 yards and scored one touchdown to help Iowa Wesleyan to a 37-16 victory against the University of St. Francis (Ill.). His 80-yard punt return for the score set a new school record. The sophomore also returned two kickoffs for 95 yards, including an 84-yard return on the opening kick. Iowa Wesleyan is 3-6 on the year.

Soccer Honors

 

Jeff Clark of Concordia University (Calif.) and Charlotte Large of Viterbo University (Wis.) have been named the NAIA Men's and Women's Soccer Players of the Week, respectively, for the week ending October 30, 2005

 

A native of Yorba Linda, Calif., Clark led unranked Concordia to two victories against ranked teams.  The freshman forward scored both game-winning goals in a 1-0 win against then-No. 6 Azusa Pacific University (Calif.) and in a 2-1 victory against then-No. 15 Fresno Pacific University (Calif.).  The two wins propelled Concordia (12-6) to its first conference championship title.

 

A junior goalkeeper, Large recorded 14 saves in two shutouts for Viterbo.  She faced 10 shots in a 1-0 overtime victory against St. Ambrose University (Iowa) and had another four saves in a 2-0 win against William Penn University (Iowa).  Large has 11 shutouts on the season as the V-Hawks improved to 16-3 overall.

Volleyball Honors

 

Karey Kelley of Southern Wesleyan University (S.C.), Jamie McCreary of Southern Oregon University and Susan Taylor of Texas Wesleyan University were named the NAIA Volleyball Player, Setter and Libero of the week, respectively, for the week ending October 30, 2005

 

Kelley, a 5'9" junior from Pickesn, S.C., averaged 6.38 kills per game as Southern Wesleyan posted 3-1 victories against Columbia College (S.C.) and Reinhardt College (Ga.).  The outside hitter recorded 25 kills and 26 kills, respectively, while adding 32 digs and four aces in the two matches.  Southern Wesleyan improved to 11-13 on the year.

 

A native of Minden, Nev., McCreary helped Southern Oregon extend its winning streak to 15 matches.  The Red Raiders posted two victories on the week as the senior setter averaged 15.86 assists and 5.43 digs per game.  SOU improved to 32-7 on the season after posting a 3-1 win against Concordia University (Ore.) and a 3-0 win against Corban College (Ore.). 

 

Texas Wesleyan senior libero Taylor recorded 101 digs in five matches over the week.  Hailing from Southlake, Texas, Taylor had 11 service aces as the then-No. 12 Rams went 5-0 to improve to 23-3 on the year.
