67th Annual NAIA National Convention
Council of Presidents
The council reviewed results of a February 2008 online survey circulated among all NAIA chief executive officers related to proposed standards for presidential leadership in conference governance. Council members also discussed draft recommendations from the COP Committee on Presidential Leadership and Conference Standards, including proposed requirements to establish those matters fully within the direct control of chief executive officers (e.g., budget and finance, conference membership, staffing) and employ paid professional administrators in each NAIA conference.
The council approved seven new member institutions, effective September 1, 2008: Ave Maria University (Florida), associate member; Cincinnati Christian College (Ohio); Kentucky Christian University; University of Maine, Presque Isle; College of Santa Fe (New Mexico); Southeastern University (Florida); and Talladega College (Alabama).
Council members directed formation of a task force to review and make recommendations regarding the football championship structure, funding and reimbursement, as well as benefits to the NAIA.
The council also met with representatives of the NCAA regarding ongoing discussions involving senior staff members and selected chief executive officers from each association. The council requested that its Executive Committee form a joint working group with the NCAA for the purpose of exploring future partnerships of mutual benefit to the two associations.
The council approved an association-wide budget for 2008-09, including annual membership dues of $5,400.
