Jim Carr

Jim Carr joined the NAIA in July 1998 as Managing Director and General Counsel and was promoted to Chief Operating Officer, while retaining the title of General Counsel, in 2000.  In September 2006 Carr became the seventh President and Chief Executive Officer of the NAIA. 

Before joining the NAIA, Jim practiced law with the full service law firm of Maynard, Cooper and Gale, P.C. in Birmingham, AL from 1994-1998.  His primary areas of practice were public finance, corporate and intellectual property.  He also worked in the athletic development office at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) from 1989-1991.  As Director of Licensing at UNLV, Jim strengthened policing and marketing efforts which contributed to a 300% increase in royalty revenue for the 1990-1991 academic year.

Jim obtained a B.B.A. in business administration from Millsaps College in 1988, an M.S. in sports management from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1990 and a J.D. from Duke University in 1994.  He serves on various boards and councils, including USA Basketball, the Police Athletic League of Kansas City, Missouri Bank and Trust and the Downtown Council of Kansas City.

Jim, his wife Delia, and their two children, Janie and Andrew reside in Fairway, KS and are active in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Kansas City, MO.
