    Indoor / Outdoor Track & Field Coaches Corner

    2007-08 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

    1. How does an individual qualify for the National Championship meet?

    A. Event by event qualification standards can be found in Appendix B of the Track and Field coaches manual.

    B. All marks to be used for qualification for the indoor and outdoor national championships must be submitted within 7 days of the conclusion of the meet in which the mark is achieved.  Meet information where results were attained must be filled out in its entirety for verification purposes.  Submission of invalid marks may lead to disqualification of the entire team.

    C. Institutions may enter as many athletes into an event as there are places to score (six indoor/eight outdoor).

    D. No more than three right-of-membership entries for women and three for men may be used.  Please refer to the Track and Field Coaches Manual for details on right-of-membership entries.

    E. For the multi-events (Indoor – women’s pentathlon & men’s heptathlon; Outdoor – women’s heptathlon & men’s decathlon), the field is limited to the top 16 declared athletes.

    2. What is the latest date that an individual can qualify for nationals?

    Indoor National Championships
    11:59 a.m., February 25 – Proof of Performance (POP) forms are due by NOON CST.

    Outdoor National Championships
    11:59 a.m., May 14 – Proof of Performance (POP) forms are due by NOON CST.

    No late entries will be accepted.

    3. Is it possible for an individual or relay team to update performance marks after the 25th (indoor) and the 12th (outdoor)?


    No new or updated marks will be accepted after the Noon CST deadline on these dates as the final declaration process for each national championship will be underway.

    4.
    How is an individual nominated for Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors?


    Individuals must be nominated using the form in Appendix G of the Track and Field Coaches Manual.  Criteria are as follows:

    A. Nominee is junior or above in academic standing.

    B. Nominee has been in attendance at the nominating institution a minimum of one full year of attendance.

    C. Nominee has a minimum grade point average of 3.50 (on a 4.0 scale) at the time of nomination at the nominating institution as defined by the nominating institution.


    D. Nominee has been certified as eligible and is listed on the eligibility certificate submitted to conference/region eligibility chair.

    E. Nomination form is complete with required signatures.


    F. All the above information is to be received by May 2, 2008.


    The NAIA strongly recommends that Scholar-Athlete nomination forms and support material be sent via overnight, registered, or certified mail.

    NO LATE FORMS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

    5.
    How does an individual become or earn NAIA All-America status?


    Individuals and members on a relay team who finish in the Top 6 in their event will earn NAIA All-America status.  Each individual and relay team member will receive an official NAIA All-America plaque along with a certificate listing all of NAIA All-Americans in the sport of Track and Field.

    6. What are the entry fees for the championships?


    $100 per team, per gender entered plus $5 per athlete.  Entry fees are capped at $300 for each participating institution.
