7 versus 7 Soccer Competition
During the 2005-06 academic year, many institutions competed in “7v7” outdoor soccer tournaments. Due to the uncertainty regarding the appropriate application of NAIA regulations, institutions were permitted to participate in “7v7” tournaments, without having to count these contests towards their soccer contest limits. This policy will not continue in the 2006-07 season.
Effective immediately, competition in any outside soccer competition, regardless of the number of players (e.g., 11v11, 7v7, 3v3), is considered part of the soccer season. Therefore, while it is permissible to compete in “7 v7” tournaments, participation in such tournaments must be counted towards each soccer team’s limit of 18 regular contests and two scrimmages. Further, please be reminded that all students must be certified eligible in the spring term to participate in spring competition
Please contact the NAIA National Office if you have any questions regarding this issue.
