KANSAS CITY, Mo. - By a mere four-point spread, Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) clings to No. 1 in the 2008 NAIA Baseball Coaches' Top 25 poll, announced today (March 26). The Warriors have maintained the No. 1 slot for the last 24 straight polls. However, LCSC is narrowly in the lead over No. 2 Lee (Tenn.) after the Warriors earned 11 first-place votes and 537 points -- Lee (Tenn.) posted 10 first-place nods and 533 total points.
The Warriors have been the top-ranked dating back to the 2006 season. Winners of the last two National Championships, LCSC stands 25-2 overall on the year. Lee, who is at No. 2 for the second straight week, is the season wins leader in the NAIA with a 34-1 mark. The Flames have won 31 straight games heading into the week.
The next three teams in the Top 5 hold from last week: No. 3 Lubbock Christian (Texas), No. 4 Azusa Pacific (Calif.) and No. 5 Oklahoma City.
The last time there was a different No. 1 was Oklahoma City in the 2006 Preseason Poll (Nov. 16, 2005).
The fourth regular season poll will be released on Wednesday, April 2.
