KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Nearing the NAIA record for longest winning streak in a season, Lubbock Christian (Texas) University stays at No. 1 in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Baseball Coaches' Top 25 poll, announced today (April 23). The Chaparrals, who have been No. 1 for three straight weeks, have won 36 straight games and close in on the 41-game streak of Point Park (Pa.) back in 1990.
LCU stands 43-1 overall and earned all 21 of the possible first-place votes.
The top eight teams hold from last week including two-time defending national champion Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) at No. 2. The Warriors have held the No. 1 or No. 2 positions in each of the last 36 straight polls. LCSC is 40-4 this year and posted 500 total points in this poll.
At No. 3, Lee (Tenn.) holds the most wins of any NAIA program (49). LU has held on to No. 3 the last four polls and has been mentioned in the Top 5 in all eight polls this year. Oklahoma City stays at No. 4 while Azusa Pacific (Calif.) is at No. 5.
Madonna (Mich.) University reaches the Top 25 for the first time this year. The Crusaders head into this week by winning 10 of their last 11 contests.
The eighth regular season poll will be released on Wednesday, April 30.
