SPRING ARBOR, Mich. -
Spring Arbor used a six run explosion in the third inning to cruise to an 11-3 decision over St. Ambrose University in the opening game of the Heartland Super Regional tournament being held in Hank Burbridge stadium on the campus of Sprig Arbor University today.
Senior Brad Hinkle was on the mound for the Cougars and after allowing a St. Ambrose run in each the first and second inning, settled down and struck out seven Fighting Bee's batters en-route to the win.
St. Ambrose started with Daniel Cutler on the mound, however Cougar hitters chased him in the middle of the third inning and Evan Cooling came into the game in relief. The pair gave up 13 hits on the afternoon including a solo bomb off the bat of Spring Arbor slugger Eric Vojtkofsky.
Spring Arbor was led by Brad Baker and Luke Rider offensively with Baker going 3 for 5 with 2 RBI's and Rider notching two hits in four at bats with one RBI.
St. Ambrose got a pair of 2 for 4 performances from Tyler Fletcher and Aaron Wulfekuhle. Tyler accounted for one of the two St. Ambrose RBI's on the afternoon.
The two teams will face off again tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. with a second game following one hour after the completion of the first if necessary.
