LIBERTY, Mo. -- A 75-62 win over Lindenwood University on Jan. 7 has propelled William Jewell College head men's basketball coach Larry Holley past legendary coach John Chaney (who coached for 34 years at Temple & Cheyney State) into the #21 slot on the all-time career wins list (NCAA/NAIA) with victory number 742. Larry Holley is currently in his 29th year at the helm of the Cardinals (his 37th year overall as a head collegiate coach), and has an overall coaching record of 742-418. Holley needs four wins to tie Phog Allen for the #20 spot on the career wins list.
Holley, who was named Jewell's "Mr. School Spirit" as a student at the college, lettered four times in basketball from 1963-1967, and has a career record of 655-299 at his alma mater.
In the Lindenwood contest, the Cardinals (10-6, 6-0) were led by 6'4" freshman forward Caleb Harlan with 16 points on 7-8 shooting (2-2 from 3-point range). Senior center Andrew Poston recorded his fourth double-double in his first and only season with the Cardinals, finishing with 16 points (7-9 shooting) and 11 rebounds.
Next up for the Cardinals is a matchup against Graceland University on Thursday, January 10 at 7:30 p.m. at The Mabee Center on the Jewell campus in Liberty.
