KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Standing at 22-0 and with the single undefeated record in Division II, Morningside (Iowa) is No. 1 in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Men's Basketball Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll, announced today (Jan. 30). The Mustangs, who have earned all of the possible first-place votes since becoming the top team two weeks ago (Jan. 16), notched 510 total points. MC has a tough test upcoming with a road game at No. 15 Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) next Wednesday.
No. 2 William Penn (Iowa) is up three spots from last week thanks to a school-record 12-game winning streak. No. 3 MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) slowly creeps up back to No. 1, a spot the Pioneers held for the first four polls. No. 4 Evangel (Mo.) and No. 5 Walsh (Ohio) round out this week's Top 5.
Perhaps the team on the hottest tear is No. 7 College of the Ozarks (Mo.), host school of the Division II National Championship. Ozarks has rattled off a nine-game winning streak and has been on the winning end in 14 of its last 15. The Bobcats tangle with No. 8 Bellevue (Neb.) on Saturday in a key Top 10 showdown.
No. 23 Malone (Ohio) and No. 24 Huntington (Ind.) make the Top 25 after receiving votes last week. Malone, who has won 10 of its last 11, is in the national poll for the first time this year.
