KANSAS CITY, Mo. - For the fourth straight week, the Mustangs of Morningside (Iowa) College are the No. 1 team in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division II Men's Basketball Top 25 Coaches' Poll, announced today (Feb. 6). Since becoming the No. 1, MC has received all the possible first-place votes. Morningside's undefeated record of 23-0 is on the line tonight (Wednesday) as it goes to No. 8 Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) - MC owns a 2.5 game lead in the conference standings heading into the showdown.
No. 2 Evangel (Mo.) reaches its highest point of the polls this year as it earns 483 points, just 27 shy of Morningside. No. 3 Walsh (Ohio), No. 4 College of the Ozarks (Mo.) and No. 5 MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) round out the Top 5. Walsh is on a hot streak winning 11 of its last 12 games. Right behind them is Ozarks (Mo.), who has moved up nine spots in a three-week span. The host school of the Division II National Championship, Ozarks currently owns a 12-game winning streak and recently got past then-No. 8 Bellevue (Neb.) 72-60 last Saturday.
Preseason No. 1 MidAmerica fell two spots after a tough road loss at Evangel last Monday. MNU will look for revenge as EU comes to Olathe, Kan., on Thursday (Feb. 7).
No. 23 Northwood (Fla.) hits the Top 25 for the first time since the fourth regular season poll. The Seahawks have won five straight including knocking off then-No. 6 Embry-Riddle (Fla.) last Wednesday (Jan. 30).
