KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Doug Sheckler of Huntington (Ind.) has been selected as the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 28-Feb. 3.
Sheckler, a 6-6 senior forward from Columbia City, Ind., totaled his best two-game scoring stretch this season. He first went for 24 points and seven rebounds, shooting 8-of-14 from the field, in the loss at St. Francis (Ind.), who was ranked earlier this year. He followed that up with his sixth season double-double with 30 points and 10 rebounds in the upset win over then-No. 11 Bethel (Ind.). He added four assists and four steals while going 3-for-3 from long range.
For the week, he shot 19-of-33 (.576) and 12-of-15 (.800) from the free throw line. His 30 point outburst was his seventh straight over 10 points. The 54-point, two-game stretch is the most for Sheckler this year.
Sheckler ranks in the Top 50 among NAIA statistical leaders in three categories. He stands 28th in blocks/game (1.6), 43rd in points/game (17.7) and 44th in defensive rebounds/game (5.4). For more information on the NAIA statistical leaders, click here.
