LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola (Calif.) University men's basketball head coach Dave Holmquist will coach his 1,000th collegiate game as the Eagles travel to face Golden State Athletic Conference foe Westmont (Calif.) College on Tuesday (Jan. 15) at 7:30 p.m.

Holmquist has an overall record of 730-269 in his 31 seasons of coaching-the last 27 of which have come with his alma mater. He is set to become just the 40th college coach to reach the 1,000 game plateau and just the seventh on the NAIA level. He will share the spot on the all-time list with Gene Bartow, formerly of the University of Alabama-Birmingham.

Holmquist, who was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in 2002, began his coaching career at Fresno Pacific College in 1975 at the age of 24. After three seasons at Fresno Pacific, he returned to Biola where he has posted a record of 694-226 entering Tuesday's contest, winning over 75 percent of his games over 27 seasons.

During that time, Holmquist has guided Biola to 15 NAIA Tournament appearances, including eight in the previous 11 years. The Eagles captured the GSAC title in 2002, as Holmquist earned GSAC Coach of the Year honors for the third time. Biola's best season under his guide came in 1981-82 as the Eagles reached the NAIA Championship game, finishing the season with a record of 39-1 and earning Holmquist NAIA Coach of the Year honors.

Holmquist is no stranger to coaching milestones. His most recent accomplishment came on January 24, 2006, when he become the youngest coach to win 700 collegiate games. He is just one of four NAIA coaches to reach 700 wins and is among the top 20 in all four-year classifications.

Holmquist's next milestone should be reached this season as he is just six wins away from 700 at Biola.

Biola is currently 10-5 on the 2007-08 season with a 2-3 record in GSAC play. After playing at Westmont on Tuesday, the Eagles return home on Saturday (Jan. 19) to host NAIA No. 3-ranked Concordia University at 7:30 p.m. in Chase Gymnasium.
