New Orleans, La. -- Loyola's Luke Zumo tied a GCAC record with 18 made free throws as the Wolfpack defeated the Dillard Blue Devils 79-75 Thursday night (Jan. 17) at Dent Hall.
Zumo, who ended the game with 25 points, hit 18 of his 20 attempts from the free throw line, 3 of 9 from the field and made 1 of 4 from behind the arc. He tied the GCAC record, held by William Carey's (Miss.) Jarekus Singleton, and was one free throw shy of tying the Loyola record of 19 made free throws in a game set by Ty Marioneaux in a 121-99 win over Virginia Commonwealth during the 1969-70 season. Marioneaux also set the Loyola points record in that game with 53 points.
Torry Beaulieu had 20 points on 5 of 11 shooting from the field and 2 of 4 in three point attempts. He converted 8 of 10 from the free throw stripe. It was the fourth time in his career that he scored 20 or more points.
Mario Faranda rounded out the leaders for Loyola (10-5, 3-2 GCAC) with 11 points. He also grabbed a team high nine rebounds.
For Dillard (4-8, 0-5 GCAC), David Manning led with 16 points on 7 of 12 shooting from the field. Darnell Williams had 14 points and Demarcus Hall had a double double 12 points and 10 rebounds to round out the leaders for Dillard.
Dillard led 39-34 at the half as Loyola outscored the Blue Devils 45-36 in the second stanza.
Loyola closed out the game by not making a field goal over the last 5:28 of the contest, but the Wolfpack converted 17 free throws over that time to secure the win.
The last time Loyola won three GCAC games in a row was the 1998-99 season, when the Wolfpack rattled off five straight conference victories.
Loyola returns to action on Saturday as the Wolfpack hosts cross town rival SUNO. Tip off in The Den is scheduled for 7 p.m.
