KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Jon Meriweather of Park (Mo.) has been selected as the NAIA Men's Basketball Division I Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 14-20. Jon is the son of current Park head women's basketball coach Joe C. Meriweather. Joe played 10 seasons in the NBA with his last stint coming for the Kansas City Kings.
Meriweather, a 6-8 junior forward from Kansas City, Mo., averaged 28.0 points, 12.5 rebounds and 3.5 blocks in two wins for the Pirates last week. He netted a career-high 33 points on 11-of-20 shooting to help Park defeat NCAA Division II Rockhurst (Mo.) on Jan. 16. He added 12 boards and five blocks. In the 83-70 home win versus Brescia (Ky.) last Saturday, Meriweather went for his 11th straight double-digit scoring game with 23 to go along with 13 boards.
For the week, he shot 55 percent (17-of-31) from the field and 22-of-25 (88%) from the charity stripe.
Leading the team in scoring (19.3) and rebounding (9.6), Meriweather holds eight double-doubles this season. In the NAIA, he ranks 17th in scoring and is tied for fifth in rebounding. For more information on the NAIA statistical rankings, click here
