PULASKI, Tenn. - In front of a packed gym and the Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College's student section "The Red Zone" standing the whole game, the No. 25 RedHawks Men's Basketball Team got back to their winning ways with a big TranSouth Conference win over No. 16 Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) 85-62 on Thursday (Jan. 24).
The first half was a tough ride for the RedHawks being down for almost the entire 20 minutes and going into the locker room trailing 34-30. However, the second half was a different story as the RedHawks lead expanded to as much as 25 points. Martin Methodist surged ahead with a 10-2 run that gave them a 40-36 lead with 17 minutes remaining in the game. Trevecca closed the gap to just one point at 42-41, but Martin went on a 11-2 run and pulled ahead by 10 points at 53-43. The RedHawks continued to pull away and claimed the 85-62 victory.
Carlton Peete and Kendaris Pelton helped out the RedHawks cause scoring 17 points a piece. Kevin Green and Julius Virgo scored in the double digits with 16 and 14 points respectively. The win puts the RedHawks at 15-3 overall and 6-2 in the TranSouth Athletic Conference.
Brian Oduor led Trevecca with 15 points and Josh Helton added 11 points. Collins Onyando had six rebounds and Rick James had three steals.
MMC improved to 15-3 overall and 6-2 in circuit play while Trevecca dropped to 13-4 on the season and 5-2 in the TSC.
