No. 19 Lewis-Clark (Idaho) State Nabs First-Place in the Frontier Conference



Lewis-Clark State trailed by 10 in the second half before going on a 39-24 scoring spurt

, Idaho - Picking up the tempo on both ends of the court in the second half, the No. 19 Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) College men's basketball team took over sole possession of first place in the Frontier Conference standings with a 69-64 win over No. 9 Westminster (Utah) College before a crowd of 1,991 fans at the LCSC Activity Center on Saturday night (Feb. 9).

The win was the second for the No. 19th-ranked Warriors over the No. 9 Griffins this season. LCSC is 16-6 overall and 7-1 in conference play, while Westminster is 16-4 and 6-2 in league play.

Trailing 29-26 at halftime, the Warriors started the second half a little sluggish and trailed 40-30 before outscoring Westminster 39-24 the rest of the way. The Warriors forced 19 turnovers in the contest and came up with some critical steals which they converted into fastbreak opportunities.

LCSC also found its shooting touch in the second half. After a 10-of-31 performance from the field in the first half for 32.3 percent accuracy, the Warriors hit 11-of-22 shots in the second half and also went 19-of-25 at the foul line. 

Senior guard Rob Comer led the Warriors with 16 points, while Mike Gordy added 15 along with nine rebounds and three assists.  Napoleon Gordon had nine points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals, while Lewiston product Andrew Packwood, a freshman, had a career high nine points. 

Blair Prowse had 23 points to pace four Westminster players in double figures. Danny Stosich added 16, Nate Sanchez 12, and Danny Reeder scored 10.  All of Westminster's points came from its starting five and outside of those four, the rest of the team was a combined 1of-15 from the field. LCSC's bench had 12 points in the game. 

The Warriors are back in action on Friday night when they travel to Havre, Mont., to face Montana State University-Northern.
