KANSAS CITY, Mo. - No. 13 seed Campbellsville University (Ky.) posted a 70-54 victory against the University of Mobile (Ala.) Wednesday in the first round of the 69th Annual Buffalo Funds-NAIA Division I Men's Basketball National Championship.
Senior guard Zach Ingles poured in a game-high 25 points in leading the Tigers to their fourth consecutive win. Campbellsville is now 27-5 on the season and advances to a tournament second-round game Friday at 9 a.m. CST. The Tigers will face either Carroll College (Mont.) or Saint Xavier University (Ill.). Wednesday's victory marked the first-ever win at the NAIA national tournament for the Campbellsville men's program, which is making its fifth appearance.
After leading 33-30 at the half, Campbellsville used an all-around attack to pull away in the final 20 minutes. The Tigers shot nearly 61 percent from the field (14-of-23) while limiting the Rams defensively to 29.6 percent shooting in the same span (8-of-27).
Sophomore forward Zach Allender posted a double-double for Campbellsville with 16 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, while junior guard Jason Moore contributed 14 points. Junior guard Chad Robinson came up with three steals for Campbellsville.
Freshman guard Derrell Moreaux led a balanced attack for Mobile with 11 points. Senior forward Randy Jordan added nine points and a team-leading seven rebounds for the Rams. Mobile ends its 2005-06 season with an overall record of 22-9.
