Kansas City, Mo. - Four Oklahoma City starters scored in double figures as the Stars pulled away in the second half for a 99-77 victory Friday against Houston Baptist University in the quarterfinal round of the 69th Annual Buffalo Funds-NAIA Division I Men's Basketball National Championship.
Senior forward Lorenzo Gordon paced Oklahoma City with 27 points and 11 rebounds as the Stars collected their fifth consecutive win. Oklahoma City, the No. 7 seed in this year's tournament, moves to 27-7 overall and will square off with unseeded Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.) in a quarterfinal match-up Saturday at 6 p.m. CST.
The Stars forged a 42-38 lead at the half using an 8-2 run to start the half to grab a 50-40 advantage with 15:59 remaining. Oklahoma City continued to increase its lead shooting 75.9 percent from the field in the second half. The Stars were 22-of-29 from the floor in the final 20 minutes of play.
Senior forward Dawud Drew chipped in with 25 points and nine assists for Oklahoma City, while senior guard Rory Green came off the bench to post 16 points. Senior guard Ryan Godwin contributed 11 points and nine assists, while junior center Dennis Pease also scored 11 points.
Senior guard Chad Barnes scored 24 points and handed out four assists in a reserve role to lead Houston Baptist. Junior guard Dwight Jones added 14 points and five rebounds, while senior center Ben McCain posted 12 points and a team-high six rebounds. The Huskies closed out their 2005-06 season with an overall record of 27-6.
