KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Receiving 10 of 11 first-place votes, Mountain State University (W.V.) is No. 1 in the first regular season National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Men's Basketball Division I Top 25 Coaches' Poll, announced today (Dec. 5). MSU is a perfect 7-0 including wins over then-No. 19 Union (Tenn.) and NCAA Division II Ohio Valley. The Cougars hold slight a lead over the second-place clubs Concordia (Calif.) and Georgetown (Ky.), who each earned 308 total points to tie for No. 2.
Georgetown, who notched the other first-place vote and is No. 3, leads Division I with 10 wins.
Oklahoma Baptist and Louisiana State University-Shreveport hold the four and five positions.
Making one of the biggest leaps in this poll is Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.). The Trojans are 6-0 and at No. 7 thanks to an impressive win over then-No. 13 Illinois-Springfield (Nov. 10). Receiving votes in the preseason poll, TNU has won by an average margin of 27.8 points.
The second regular season poll will be released on Wednesday, Dec. 12.
