KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Two teams bounced out of the Top 10 while the University of Sioux Falls (S.D.)
stayed at No. 1 for the third straight poll in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA)
Football Top 25 Poll, announced this afternoon. The big upset of the week came with Montana-Western
taking out then-No. 7 Montana State-Northern on the road last Saturday, 45-38. UM-W leaped into the
polls for the first time this year at No. 25 while MSU-N dropped down to 13th. Sioux Falls, who beat then
No. 5 Northwestern (Iowa) 44-20, received all 17 first-place votes. The Cougars (3-0) have averaged over
54 points per game in their three wins.
St. Francis (Ind.) remained at No. 2 for the third time in 2007, earning 408 points. St. Xavier (Ill.) and
Carroll (Mont.) stayed at No. 3 and 4, respectively while Bethel moved up to No. 5. Northwestern, who was
last week's No. 5, fell back to No. 11.
Urbana (Ohio), who is included in the "others receiving" category with five votes, pulled off a 23-21 upset
at then-No. 15 McKendree (Ill.).
The poll was voted upon by a 17 member-panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences
and independents.
The third regular season poll (fourth overall) will be released on Monday, Sept. 24.
