Sept. 24, 2007
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The top six teams stayed while two programs entered the poll for the first time in the 2007 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Football Top 25 Poll, announced this afternoon. The University of Sioux Falls (S.D.), who remains undefeated and has earned 66 of a possible 68 total first-place votes in four polls this year, is the No. 1 team again with 425 total points.
Hastings (Neb.) and Evangel (Mo.) find themselves in the 2007 Top 25 for the first time with Hastings checking in at No. 19 (tie) and Evangel at No. 24. Hastings (4-0) defeated Midland Lutheran (Neb.) 29-12 last Saturday and will host No. 10 Northwestern (Iowa) this weekend. Evangel (3-1) took down then-No. 8 Missouri Valley 22-12 on the road last week rebounding from a setback to No. 1 Sioux Falls.
St. Francis (Ind.) held at No. 2 for the fourth straight time in 2007, earning 408 points. St. Xavier (Ill.), Carroll (Mont.), Bethel (Tenn.) and Ohio Dominican all held their positions from No. 3-6. Graceland (Iowa) and Montana-Western both made the biggest jump of eight spots this week - Graceland is at No. 16 while Montana-Western is No. 17.
The poll was voted upon by a 17 member-panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and independents.
The fourth regular season poll (fifth overall) will be released on Monday, Oct. 1.
