Randy Hippeard of University of Virginia's College at Wise, Brian Kurtz of the University of St. Francis (Ind.), and Mike Stowers of Jamestown College (N.D.) have been selected as the NAIA National Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week for the week ending October 22, 2006.
Hippeard, a sophomore quarterback from Stafford, Virginia, threw for 439 yards and 5 TD's in a 52-38 win over Pikeville College (Ky.). His 439 yards passing is a new single game school record. He had scoring passes of 17, 17, 28, 10 and 30 yards to four different receivers and he also set a new single season Cavs passing touchdown mark with 21 on the year. On the season, Hippeard has a completion percentage of 62.9 (161/256) for 2450 yards and only five interceptions. He is also ranked first in the nation in passing yards/game (306.3) and total offense/game (305.3). He is also 4th in the nation in passing efficiency (166.4).
Kurtz, a senior linebacker from Fort Wayne, Indiana, registered his first interception for a tourchdown in his collegiate career, a 65-yard return, in a 34-13 win over # 23 Malone College (Ohio). Kurtz also made 13 total tackles (6 solo/7 assisted) including one for a loss. He is currently ranked 12th in the nation in tackles/game (10.5)
Stowers, a senior defensive lineman from Gilbert, Arizona, blocked two field goals as the Jimmies defeated Dickinson State University (N.D.) 10-8. The Jimmies' special teams wreaked havoc against DSU, as they blocked three field goals during the game, including the potential game-winner as time expired.
