FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- University of Saint Francis (Ind.) junior place-kicker Rhys Barnhart recently set an NAIA record with 91 consecutive extra points kicked (point after touchtown – PAT).
Barnhart kicked seven extra points in the Cougars’ 52-12 win over Walsh (Ohio) University on Sat., Oct. 25, to extend his consecutive PAT streak to 91. Carlisle Koonts, playing for Gardner-Webb (N.C.) from 1979-82, held the previous national record of 90.
Barnhart has kicked extra points in 19 consecutive games dating back to four in the Sept. 15, 2007 USF game at Pikeville University. He has converted 42-of-42 PATs this season and is seven short of breaking the Mid-States Football Association season record of 49, which he set in 2007 (previous record, 30, Jason Gill, Geneva, 1997, and Tom Sellers, Findlay, 1995).
He also set a USF single-game extra point record kicking nine against Marian to break the record of eight set by Joe Klimaski against Iowa Wesleyan in an 84-9 win in 2000.
