BALDWIN CITY, Mo. -- Junior quarterback Mack Brown connected with senior wide receiver Tyrell Spain for three touchdowns, including the game winner with eight seconds left, to lift No. 24-ranked Baker (Kan.) University to a thrilling 26-22 victory over  No. 7 Missouri Valley on Saturday (Nov. 1) at Liston Stadium.

The Wildcats trailed the Vikings 22-19 before Brown found Spain deep in the end zone on a 23-yard pass play to secure Baker’s sixth consecutive victory. Spain had TD receptions of 8 and 40 yards in the first half.

Baker junior Derek Doerfler kicked a 28-yard field goal on the final play of the first half and a 51-yarder with 8:16 left in the third quarter to give Baker a 19-14 advantage. Missouri Valley took its last lead on Robert Holmes’ 12-yard run with 10:28 left in the fourth quarter. Holmes finished with 40 carries and 196 yards.

Brown, coming off a school-record passing performance a week ago, completed 26 of 39 passes for 299 yards. Brown has 5,569 career passing yards to rank second in school history behind Tim Sheldon (5,584). Spain finished with seven catches for 102 yards.

The Wildcats (7-2 overall and 7-1 in the HAAC) will play conference leader MidAmerica Nazarene (8-0, 8-0) at 1 p.m. Saturday in Olathe. Missouri Valley dipped to 6-2 and 6-2.
