Nov. 23, 2008
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The 2008 NAIA Football Championship Series (FCS) Quarterfinals have been officially announced by the NAIA office today (Nov. 23). Two undefeated teams will play host and one 10-1 program welcomes another one-loss team in three Quarterfinal games scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 29. Carroll (Mont.), who is riding a 27-game overall winning streak, advances to the Semifinals (Dec. 6) due to a forfeit by Northwestern Oklahoma State (see related story).
Sioux Falls (S.D.), which is riding a 33-game home winning streak, takes on Langston (Okla.) in Sioux Falls, S.D. These two teams have never faced each other in FCS play. USF is looking for its eighth shut-out on the year, which would tie the national record in a single-season. On a 51-game home winning streak, St. Francis (Ind.) looks to extend that mark by hosting Cumberlands (Ky.). The Patriots of U of C notched its first ever FCS win on Saturday (Nov. 22) over Shorter (Ga.) 31-7.
In the fourth Quarterfinal game, Morningside (Iowa) plays host to Lindenwood (Mo.) Both are 10-1 teams and boasting high-powered offenses. The Mustangs and Lions combined for 130 points and over 1,100 yards of total offense in wins yesterday.
The Quarterfinal winners will meet up on Dec. 6 on campus sites. The 53rd Annual Russell Athletic-NAIA Football National Championship is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 20 at Rome, Ga. Rome-Floyd County and Shorter (Ga.) College will host the event at Barron Stadium. The event will be televised live on CBS College Sports Network with kick-off slated for 12 p.m. EST.
