OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Jan. 30, 2008) - Oklahoma Christian head golf coach David Lynn has selected Sam Cyr of Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) to represent the United States in the 2008 World University Games.
The event is slated for Sept. 2 through Sept. 5 at the Sun City Resort in Sun City, South Africa.
A junior from Makawao, Hawaii, Cyr is a two-time first-team NAIA All-American. He was the runner-up at last year's NAIA National Tournament where he fired a four-day total of 285 (-3). Cyr won four events in 2007, including the NAIA Region II championship.
Cyr tied for second at the NAIA Region II tournament in 2006 and placed 11th at the national tournament.
"Much like the other two players we've chosen, Sam is a fantastic individual," Lynn said. "He has a long list of accomplishments and is one of the top players in the NAIA."
Cyr joins Drew Chuipek of St. Ambrose University (Ia.) and Jarod Trammell of Berry College (Ga.) on the U.S. National Team.
Lynn will lead the three NAIA players along with three NJCAA players in the event.
The World University Games feature teams comprised of college athletes from countries all around the world. The event is held every other year.
The Gary Player Golf Course at the Sun City Resort will host this year's golf event. The site is also the host of the famous Sun City Million Dollar Invitational.
