Siloam Springs, Ark. - John Brown University Athletic Director Robyn Gordon announced on Tuesday, Feb. 12 that after a 35 year hiatus, men's varsity golf will be returning to JBU. The program, which originally occurred from 1966-1973, looks to make its return in the fall. 

"JBU is excited to bring back men's golf as an intercollegiate sport in the fall of 2008," said Gordon.  "With nine other institutions competing in golf in the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC), this will add depth to our athletics' program." 

Overall, there are currently 174 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) members sponsoring golf this year.  With such widespread participation, JBU is optimistic about the potential for athletes joining the program.

"We receive calls every year from prospective students who would love to play golf for JBU," said Gordon.  "And offering golf gives our athletics' program four men's and four women's sports, which make us feel positive about the opportunities we are providing to both men and women." 

The Golf Club at Dawn Hill in Siloam Springs will serve as the home course for JBU golf.  Along with practices, JBU also hopes to host some tournaments at the facility.
