British Columbia Maintains Lead After Day Three

PLYMOUTH, Ind. - Third-ranked British Columbia stayed atop the team leaderboard after the third round of the 2008 NAIA Men's Golf National Championship being held at Indiana National Golf Club in Plymouth, Indiana.

The Thunderbirds were one-over par on their round and are even par for the tournament but lost a stroke to second place Johnson & Wales (Fla.) who shot even par on the day and are three strokes back (+3). Defending champions Oklahoma City are at (+11) while top-ranked Oklahoma Christian shot the round of the day with a six-under 282 and are (+12). Wayland Baptist (Texas) is still within shouting distance in fifth place at (+18) but have a lot of ground to make up.

Nick Zappin of Johnson & Wales shot a second straight three-under 69 to move two strokes ahead of second round co-leader Sam Cyr of Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.). Zappin had five birdies in his round against two bogeys. Rhein Gibson of Oklahoma Christian had the best round of the day with a 68 that moved him into the top ten.

The field of 144 golfers was cut to the top 17 teams and 40 individuals after the completion of the third round.

Final round tee times begin at 8:00 a.m. on Friday as the teams once again tackle the 6,950 yard, par 72 layout at Indiana National with the 72-hole event concluding with the crowning of the 2008 National Champion.
