Prince Takes Over Lead in Men's Golf Championships
OLATHE, Kan. - Joe Prince from Point Loma Nazarene University (Calif.) had a second round total of 70 to bring he two day total to 130 (-5). Oklahoma City University expanded their lead to nine after a second round total of 293. The 2006 NAIA Men's Golf National Championships are being held at Prairie Highlands Golf Course.
After a two-way tie yesterday for second place, Oklahoma Christian University holds the spot alone with a score of 591. Tied for third, Johnson and Wales University (Fla.) and Saint Ambrose University (Iowa) have a two day total of 593. The Master's College (Calif.) and Point Loma Nazarene are in fifth and sixth place respectively.
First-round leader Todd Halpen shot a four-over par 76 today for a 142 total and is tied for second with Zach Wilson of Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.). The only other competitor under par is Rhein Gibson from Oklahoma Christian as he stands at one-under par after two rounds.
Third round tee times begin at 8 a.m. CST on Thursday, the final day of play before the cut. The 72-hole event continues through Friday May 19. The field of 144 golfers will be cut to the top 17 teams and 40 individuals after the completion of 54 holes.
