PLYMOUTH, Ind. - Top-ranked Oklahoma City University holds the lead at the half way point of the 2007 NAIA Men's Golf National Championship after a second round two-over par 290. David Tobon of Johnson & Wales University (Fla.) holds the individual lead after a sizzling six-under 66 left him alone at 139 (-5) for the tournament.
The Stars, who held a six-stroke advantage after the first round, doubled their lead on an afternoon that saw the wind pick up and dry out the Indiana National Golf Club layout. Oklahoma City's best round came from Jacques Blaauw who shot a second straight 70 (-2) and is a shot back of Tobon at 140 (-4) along with teammate and first round co-leader Daniel Mitchell. Scott Conway of California State University-San Marcos is a shot further back at 141 (-3). Jeff Dagg of Wayland Batist University (Texas) and Nathan Leonhardt of Northwood University (Texas) are tied for fifth place at 142 (-2).
Northwood was seven-over on the day and for the tournament after a 295 (583 total). Wayland Baptist is in third at 585 (+9) followed by Johnson & Wales at 589 (+13) and Berry College (Ga.) at 591 (+15).
The field of 144 golfers will be cut to the top 17 teams and 40 individuals after the completion of the third round tomorrow. Third round tee times begin at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday as the teams once again tackle the 6,950 yard, par 72 layout at Indiana National with the 72-hole event continuing through Friday, May 25.
