VANCOUVER - More than one third of the athletes selected to represent Canada at the upcoming FISU World University Golf Championships In Sun City, South Africa are members of the University of British Columbia's men's and women's golf team.

The five-athlete women's roster includes T-Birds Marianne Banton (Woodinville, Wash.) and Alyssa Human (Kamloops, B.C).  The selection for this year's squad was based on performance at the 2008 RCGA University College Championships held back in May.  Banton finished second to University of Victoria's Christina Spence Proteau, while Human was fourth.

On the men's side, RCGA individual champ Andrew Robb (Richmond, BC) leads a six-man squad that includes his UBC teammate Cory Renfrew (Victoria, BC).  Robb and Renfrew were both members of the T-Bird men's team that claimed their first-ever NAIA Championship this past season.  Renfrew was also named to the inaugural All-Nickalus team this past season.

Canada has competed at the FISU golf championships since 2002. The men’s team had its best result at the last championships in Italy in 2006 with a fourth-place finish, while the women had their best finish in Thailand in 2004 with an eighth place result.
