Two more records fell today at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championship Meet. The first record was set in the Men's Weight Throw as Will Moman, a senior from Doane College (Nebraska), launched a throw of 20.44 meters (67' 00.75'') which broke the long-standing mark of 20.25 meters set by Christian Okoye of Azusa Pacific University in 1987.
The women's 3200 meter relay teams from Simon Fraser University (British Columbia) and Missouri Baptist University both broke the previous meet record of 9:06.53 in their event which was set by McKendree College (Illinois) in 2000. Simon Fraser won the relay, setting the new meet record with a time of 8:50.86. Missouri Baptist finished second at 9:02.43 and Oklahoma Baptist University took third at 9:07.91.
Several other national champions were crowned during day two of the meet in a variety of events including the men's and women's 3000 meter race walk, the men's 3200 meter relay, the women's weight throw, the men's and women's long jump, the women's pole vault, and the men's high jump (For more information and a complete listing of results, visit the NAIA website at www.naia.org).
After six events, Missouri Baptist leads the women's overall team standings with 34 points, followed by Lindenwood University (Missouri) with 22 and Doane College with 18.333. Nineteen women's teams have earned at least two points after the second day of the meet.
In the men's team competition, Dickinson State University (North Dakota) enjoys a substantial lead with 36 points to Azusa Pacific's (California) 16. Doan College and Lindenwood University are tied for third with 11 points each. Following the second day of competition, twenty-three men's teams have earned at least one point.
The Championships will conclude on Saturday, with the Opening Ceremonies set for Saturday at noon and the Awards Ceremony set for Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
